Tomato Bhajiya

Rainy weather + Bhajia is the best combination! Made Surat’s World Famous ‘tameta na bhajia’ (tomato pakora/fritters) for brunch today! This dish requires no introduction for people from Surat! But for people who are not from Surat these are the most amazing and delicious pakoras. It is deep fried sliced tomatoes with a spicy green chutney. You all HAVE to try it! Dumas beach in Surat is the only place where I have never eaten these tomato bhajia. They are spicy and so flavorful! The cilantro garlic chutney makes these bhajias so delicious!!

Ingredients

Method

Green Chutney

1.

Add cilantro, garlic, ginger, green chilies and salt to a blender jar and make a coarse paste.

Besan Batter

1.

In a bowl add besan, turmeric, red chili powder, salt, 1 tsp oil, hing and eno. Mix water gradually and make a thick lump free batter.

2.

The batter should be thick another wise the tomato slices will not get coated with the batter.

Frying

1.

Cut tomato into thick slices.

2.

Spread the green chutney on the cut tomato slices.

3.

Dip the slices into the thick batter and fry on medium heat on both sides.

4.

Serve hot with a cup of chai, chutney and ketchup
