If you like Taco Bell Chalupas, then you are surely going to love this recipe as it is inspired from them! Crispy from outside and pillow-y, soft from inside, the golden chalupa bread is filled with beans and cheese and topped with sour cream and veggies. You can make mini ones like I did and serve it for appetizers or make big ones and have it in the dinner table as your main dish. This is my version of Taco Bell Bean and Cheese Chalupas. By no means this is an authentic recipe, I made just the way I like it! But tastes amazing so do give it a try.
Add all the ingredients for chalupa bread in a bowl and make a semi soft dough.
Let it rest for 20-30 minutes.
Divide the dough into 10 equal size balls.
Take one ball and roll it out to a 3 inch circle. Don’t roll it too thin. Using a fork prick the rolled dough.
In heated oil, slide the rolled dough and fry for 30 seconds.
Then using tongs flip it and fold the dough in half (like a taco shell).
Hold the chalupa and fry evenly.
Once done, remove and let it drain on a paper towel. Repeat with all shells.
Fill the chalupa bread with refried beans.
Add sour cream, top with tomatoes, lettuce and shredded cheese.
Drizzle hot sauce over and serve.
1. Since this is inspired from Taco Bell Chalupa, I like to use the Fire Sauce from Taco Bell. But feel free to use the hot sauce you have in your pantry.
2. Also by no means is this an authentic recipe.
